We work with small and medium-sized companies, covering the Ayr area and surrounding regions, providing quality language translation services combined with very competitive fees. Long-term translation services clients include some of the world’s leading brands, from L’Oréal and Bosch in Europe to local, British organisations such as The Business Link.

Language Translation Information

THE NORWEGIAN LANGUAGE

Norwegian (Norsk) is a North Germanic language spoken primarily in Norway, where it is an official language. Together with Swedish and Danish, Norwegian forms a continuum of more or less mutually intelligible local and regional variants.

OUR NORWEGIAN LINGUISTS
We have an extensive network of Norwegian freelance linguists who are all experienced and qualified linguists. Every freelancer who works for us must adhere to a strict code of conduct, which regulates expected quality levels and ensures confidentiality.

THE PERSIAN LANGUAGE

Persian is an Indo-European language spoken in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan. Persian and its varieties have official-language status in Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. There are approximately 72 million native speakers of Persian in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and about the same number of people in other parts of the world speak Persian. UNESCO was asked to select Persian as one of its languages in 2006.

THE POLISH LANGUAGE

Polish (język polski, polszczyzna) is spoken by most of the 38 million inhabitants of Poland and is the most spoken West Slavic language. There are also native speakers of Polish in western Belarus and Ukraine, as well as in eastern Lithuania, southeastern Latvia, northern Romania, and the northeastern part of Czech Republic.

THE PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE

Portuguese (português  or língua portuguesa) is a Romance language that originated in what is now Galicia (Spain) and northern Portugal from the Latin spoken by romanised Pre-Roman peoples of the Iberian Peninsula (namely the Gallaeci, the Lusitanians, the Celtici and the Conii) about 2000 years ago.

Today it is one of the world's major languages, ranked 4th according to number of native speakers (approximately 250 million). It is the language with the largest number of speakers in South America, spoken by nearly all of Brazil's approximately 186 million population, which amounts to over 51% of the continent's population even though it is the only Portuguese-speaking nation in the Americas.

Some additional language facts and mistakes

• In the translation business, American English is treated as a foreign language, and it is only the brave who assume that Americans will understand everything we write over here, and vice versa.

• A truly severe lesson was learned sometime ago by The Swedish Manufacturer, Electrolux, when the Company launched their ad campaign in the US for the then latest top of the range of vacuum cleaners using a successful English slogan "Nothing sucks like an Electrolux".

• When the BBC sold the US rights of "Eastenders" to the ABC television network, they found it necessary to publish a glossary of terms and phrases to "assist" the comprehension of its US viewing audience.
The dictionary ran to 635 entries!

• J F Kennedy when famously and publicly addressing a large crowd of Germans in Berlin close to the infamous wall, closed his speech with the statement "Ich bin ein Berliner". Unfortunately, rather than closely associating himself with the locals, which was his obvious intention, he told everyone that he was a doughnut!

• There are strict rules in France governing the use of words which emanate from outside the country. Whilst the rest of the world is happy to use the generic word for everyday objects, the French insist that their words must be used. The penalty for misuse can result in a large fine.

• Maltese is one of the world's most unusual languages. Its foundations are a combination of Arabic and European constructions, a very complex relationship since Arabic has nothing in common with any European language. However, Maltese has evolved defying all linguistic logic into an effective and workable language. The fact that it is very difficult to learn is not a problem since English is widely spoken and understood and is regarded as the island's main language.
